DR. MACK OYLER RETIRES JULY 1,1991
Dr. J. Mack Oyler, Associate Dean for
Academic Affairs since 1980, retired from
the College of Veterinary Medicine July 1,
991. Before assuming the role of Asso¬
ciate Dean, Dr. Oyler had a var¬ ied and inter¬ esting career in the profession. After receiving the DVM de¬ gree from OSU in 1953, he en¬ tered general practice in Grove, Oklaho¬ ma and contin¬ ued in that prac¬ tice until 1965. He served one yearduringthat period (1955- 56) as herd vet¬ erinarian for Fair Oaks Ranch in
Boerne, Texas. In 1965 he returned to OSU as an NIH Postdoctoral Fellow and completed a Ph.D. degree in Physiology in 1969. He and his family then moved to the University of Georgia where he became Associate Pro¬ fessor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology in 1971. In 1973 he returned to Oklahoma State University as
Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine and Surgery. In 1975 he moved to the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University College of Veterinary Medicine as Professor and Assistant Dean. In this role, he was instrumental in getting The Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine organized and off to a good start. Dr. Oyler returned to OSU in 1980 as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
In lieu of a formal function to recognize and celebrate his retirement, Dr. Oyler has requested a special project. Dr. Oyler be¬ lieves a need exists for a room in the Veterinary Medicine building in which fac¬ ulty, students and visitors can meet over breakfast, lunch, dinner or refreshments. To honor his request, an area has been selected, and estimates for renovation and decoration have been solicited.
Please join us in thanking Dr. and Mrs. Oyler for their years of service to the veterinary medicine profession and the College of Veterinary Medicine at Oklaho¬ ma State University by sending a donation to make the "J. Mack and Mary J. Oyler Seminar Room" a reality. The Oylers have been great friends. We offer our best wishes for their retire¬ ment years in their newly-renovated home in Grove, Oklahoma.
